Aussie Aussie Aussie!!!

AUSTRALIA 3-1 JAPAN
12 June 2006
by FIFAworldcup.com

Substitute Tim Cahill was the hero for Australia as the Socceroos scored three times in eight minutes to beat Japan 3-1 in Kaiserslautern and record their first ever win in the FIFA World Cup™ finals.

Trailing at half-time to Shunsuke Nakamura's 26th-minute goal, the opening Group F match turned on its head with the arrival of Cahill. He equalised with a close-range strike in the 84th minute and then fired a spectacular second in the 89th before striker John Aloisi put the icing on the cake two minutes into added time.

Hi Nick - It's Rob T (finance). I'd probably be better off emailing you but figure this is more immediate. Have admittedly not read every word of your vast blog but I like your thoughtful and open style. It's fantastic - you should consider journalism.

I'm moving to the UK January next year and am keen to pick your brains about it - in particular in relation to work prospects. On this note, let me know how you go with englishlads.com and how it pays as I may consider that option upon arrival. (Disclaimer - have not seen site so do not know what it contains. Suspect it may make me think twice).

I'm unclear on when you're returning (it sounds like you're moving to Brisbane). Also sounds like you're going to China - I worked and lived there for 6 months. Happy to offer any advice. I think you'll love it there (if you're going) though it's not without it frustrations.

Do you mind if I shoot you some questions at some stage, and when would be best for you?

Cheers mate - Rob

Okay - I've had a quick look at Englishlads website and I quickly closed it (being at work) - got the impression it contained sexually explicit material - I might be wrong though as I only looked for a second. No doubt just spam anyway.

Rob! Good to hear from you. How's it going? Yep send all the questions you want to hirst_nick@hotmail.com, I check it almost every day.

Go the Maroons!

Screw the maroons-- up the BLUES. What is the score I wonder... right after checking stateoforigin.com.au I see it is 1 a piece. My dad had mentioned to me that the BLUES had won the first game, though it has been duely noted that he has not mentioned the loss we suffered in the second game-- perhaps the ref had flown in from the world cup in Germany?

Nick, I'm sure you saw the Croatia Australia game-- what a hoot. It was the first game I ventured to a bar for, and ended up at the 'Cock and Bull' on Lincoln Blvd. here in Santa Monica. There were some random aussie dudes in the bar, and we were slapping one another on the back as we won [our way into the next round]. Kris was into it too.

Good spirited bunch we are too-- one of them delivering me my wallet after I'd left it on the bar. Of course I snuck in a few pints before heading back to work.

I have an aussie flag up here at work now in celebration.

On another note nick-- I will be stopping by in late july, early august. The night of the august 3rd, there could be some boozing going down en Londres. Not sure if you're still around, but it sure would be great to booze it down with you.

Hope all is well,

Rod.
